Vafa Bayat

Head, Research and Development

Vafa is a Physician Scientist (MD, PhD), with extensive medical, graduate, and postgraduate training from Baylor College of Medicine and Stanford University, including PhD training in Baylor’s Developmental Biology Program under the guidance of HHMI and now National Academy of Sciences and Arts member  Professor Hugo Bellen and Anatomic Pathology training at Stanford University. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Houston, where he graduated magna cum laude. He has published numerous highly respected and cited papers in journals including Cell, Science, PLoS Biology, Journal of Cell Biology, PNAS, Genome Research, PNAS, and Annual Review of Genetics, with subjects ranging from the identification of novel genetic disease genes to the uncovering of pathological mechanisms for neurodegenerative diseases.
